Who doesn’t know perfume cards that are used to promote fragrances in magazines - the technology behind it is microencapsulation. Any industrials sector is concerned today by Microencapsulation: from the Nutrition & Health to Agronomy; from Medicine to textile; from cosmetics to chemicals and paper. But the application potential of the technology isn’t exploited for a long time yet.
In order to enable companies to benefit from new, innovative possibilities of this fascinating technology the Fraunhofer-Institute for Industrial Engineering (IAO) and the Fraunhofer-Institute for Advanced Polymer Research (IAP) have initiated the Technology Platform Microencapsulation.
Since February 2009 the platform bundles information on technological trends and potentials, market data as well as patents and thus helps companies to identify profitable fields of research and development and moreover supports members of the platform to generate new ideas.
The participants get a regular update on Microencapsulation progresses and advances by a newsletter containing the latest developments, open calls for tenders and important appointments. Information exchange between the members of the platform is assured by means of an Online Platform, several internal meetings as well as the “Business Model Innovation – Neue Einsatzmöglichkeiten für Mikroverkapselung” yearly forum. The members of the platform are supported in the identification of chances and potentials that result from technical developments and leading to profitability by the yearly published comprehensive technology potential analysis. In this compact technological overview, the information generated over the year are evaluated and used as concrete starting point for further analysis of interesting developments in the field of microencapsulation.
